According to The Sun, Chelsea are set to offer Willian a new two-year contract in order to fend off interest from Manchester United.

Chelsea’s contract policy

Willian was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridget this summer with both Manchester United and Barcelona rumoured to be interested in him.

As a result of these links, The Sun is reporting that Chelsea are willing to break their usual contract policy.

Willian will turn 30 in less than a week and according to The Sun, Chelsea will generally only offer a one-year extension to any player who is 30 or above.

However, in this case, it seems the Blues are willing to break their rule to keep hold of one of their top stars.

Willian has just less than two years left on his current contract which is said to be worth around £120,000.

Chelsea and Willian began their 2018/19 season with a 3-0 win over Huddersfield.

Willian started the game for the Blues but was subbed off after 76 minutes for Eden Hazard.

However, before he was subbed off Willian did set up N’Golo Kante for Chelsea’s opening goal.

The Blues never really looked like they were giving it 100% vs Huddersfield.

Despite this, they still managed to come away with a comfortable win.

So, Chelsea will be hoping they continue that form into today’s game vs Arsenal.

The Gunners started their season with a 2-0 loss to Manchester City and now face another tough test today.
